In honor of National Travel and Tourism week, many of Gainesville’s top attractions are offering deals and specials for local residents. As a permanent resident of Gainesville (or any city, for that matter) sometimes fun local attractions go unnoticed in the hustle and bustle of daily life. Imagine how fun it would be to take a “staycation” here at home, or slow your pace just enough to take in some of the unique sights and sounds around town.
For a boost of creative inspiration, take your lunchbreak at the Florida Museum of Natural History & Butterfly Rainforest. Perhaps you and a co-worker will do your best outside-of-the-box brainstorming when you are surrounded by lush foliage and beautiful butterflies. Or pack a picnic and journey to the center of the earth by climbing down to the bottom of Devil’s Milhopper.
This weekend, try taking a tube ride out at Ginny Springs or antique shopping at many of our local quaint stores and flea markets. Camp out overnight or take a hike at one of our many well-maintained state parks.
Is your morning jog getting stale as you run past the same houses in your neighborhood? Drive to University Avenue, park your car, and go for an early morning jog or bike ride around the UF campus. Take time to notice the historic and imposing archtiecture, the beauty of Lake Alice (watch out for gators!), and the breathtaking view from Florida Field as you traverse an empty Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
